    WORLD POLIO DAY

Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease. There is no cure, but there are safe and effective vaccines. The strategy to eradicate polio is, therefore based on preventing infection by immunizing every child until transmission stops, and the world is polio-free.
World Polio Day is observed on October 24 every year to raise awareness for polio vaccination and eradication of polio. The day observation was established by Rotary International over a decade ago to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk who led the first team to develop a vaccine against poliomyelitis. 2021 theme for World Polio Day is “Delivering on a Promise.”
The Department of Child Health Nursing of Pushpagiri College of Nursing and 3rd year BSc (2018 batch) nursing students observed the day by creating awareness through a role play organized in front of the pediatric immunization clinic on 28th October at 11.30am. Approximately 20 people attended the event.
