IMNCI WORKHOP
Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI) offers an effective case management approach to comprehensively prevent and manage the leading causes of serious illness and mortality in children under five years of age. The workshop on “IMNCI Guidelines and Updates”, a State level Workshop was a two day participatory module based workshop of IMNCI organized by the IQAC and Dept. of Child Heath Nursing, Pushpagiri College Of Nursing on 21st and 22nd march 2024 from 8am to 4.00pm at the College Auditorium. The workshop was designed to help nursing students in developing knowledge and competencies required for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, nursing care of infants and children with various diseases using guidelines as per IMNCI in the hospital and home settings. It involved Lectures, Group Discussions, Role play, Video Demonstrations and Case Study Discussions of various aspects of IMNCI Case Management Process. It was conducted in partial fulfillment of the curricular requirements of the Vth Semester BSc. Nursing students and also a part of 60th year celebrations. (Pushpagiri completes 60 years of training nurses in 2024). The workshop was in plan about several months under the guidance of & support of Rev. Fr. Aby Vadakumthala, Director- Institutions & Patron of the workshop and Prof. Mrs. Vineetha Jacob, Principal and the Organizing Chairperson. Prof. Sr. Mary Jyothi was the Organizing Secretary and Organizing Committee members were Mrs. Roshin Siby (Assistant Professor), Mrs. Neethu Devan (Lecturer) & Mrs Jyothi Vishnuthampi (Tutor), Department of Child Health Nursing. Vth semester BSc nursing students attended the workshop. The main resource person was Dr. D. Balachandar, IMNCI trainer & Senior Consultant Pediatrician, General Hospital Pathanamthitta. He was assisted by the departmental faculty in taking some of the sessions, namely Prof. Sr. Mary Jyothi, Mrs. Roshin Siby, & Mrs Neethu Devan. The workshop covered various aspects of IMNCI including- Introduction to IMNCI (Dr. Balachandran), OP management of
young infant – (small group sessions by all faculty), Counseling, Follow-up & practices to support child development – (Sr, Mary Jyothi) OP management of sick children (small group sessions by all faculty), Feeding & Developmental supportive care for sick children (by Mrs. Roshin Siby), Treatment of sick children (-Mrs. Neethu Devan) and some case study discussions. Following the main sessions, feedback was proposed by Ms. Ancy Achamma Idickle and vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Marina Biju Kuruvila Prof. Mrs. Vineetha Jacob handed over the token of appreciation to the resource person. Almost all the participants gave a positive feedback through the feedback form circulated following the workshop. The feedback results are displayed in the following bar diagram. Overall, 16% of the participants reported that the workshop was “Excellent” and 78%rated as “Good”
