National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji’s Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service.
National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs And Sports, Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji’s birth Centenary year 1969, In 37 universities involving 40000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. The motto of NSS “Not me But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need of self less service. The symbol for NSS has been based on the giant Rath wheel of the world famous Konark Sun Temple, Situated in Orissa in India.
NSS was introduced in Pushpagiri College of Nursing with the enrollment of 86 members on 01/09/2014. NSS volunteers generally work with the village and agencies to complete 120 hours of regular activities. Our NSS unit adopted “Jeevan Jyothi-old age home” and conducted various activities there. The present strength of our unit is 145 volunteers. The volunteers are conducting Sramadan in the college campus and other community areas, IEC programmers celebrating importance days such as World health day, World women’s day, Anti-Tobacco-day, Environmental day, the volunteers involved in conducting surveys and identifying the problems of that particular area and need based care is providing. Special camps are conducting according to the need of the community. NSS unit of Pushpagiri College of Nursing provide each volunteer an opportunity to serve the community and develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
