Foundations of Nursing is an integral part in the development of Nursing Science. It is a broad specialty of nursing that deals with the nursing care of patients.
It forms a larger part of the B Sc Nursing Curriculum. FON mainly focus on improvement in nursing care delivery, patient outcome and quality improvement in basic skills, theories, understanding nursing process and its applications are the focus of FON department at PCON. It enrich scientific knowledge to students.
The faculty of the department imparts in-depth knowledge to students by various innovative teaching methods like case study, case presentation, role play, power point presentation, seminar, group discussion, procedure demonstration and hands on experiences are to enhance the knowledge and skills of the students.
As part of the clinical experience in FON, students are posted in various medical, surgical, orthopaedic, neuro medicine, general wards and urology wards in order to acquire knowledge and skills in their basic procedures.
The nursing process approach is used to provide nursing care to patients by which students assess the client problems, formulate the nursing diagnosis, objective plan, implementation of nursing care and evaluating the effectiveness of care provided.
It is designed to assist students in acquiring basic skills and in depth knowledge in the field of nursing which will further enhance them as a specialized nurse in various sub specialties as the students steps in to each year.
FON acts as a stepping stone for student nurses which will further enable the student to function as an educator, manager and researcher in various fields of nursing. Faculty in the department of FON are committed to excellence in teaching, research and service.
