SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAM ON ANEMIA AND ITS PREVENTION
As part of community health nursing posting, 13 students from Community Health Nursing Department of 4th year BSc. Nursing went to Thiruvalla Municipality, on 18th April 2024 as part of our school health education. The health education topic was based on the prevention of anemia. The education was conducted by ICDS Supervisor Mrs. Sandhya. We reached the place at 10:30am and the program began with a welcome speech by Ms. Akhilamol Stephan (student) and prayer. The program continued with the students performing puppet show related to ‘Anemia and its prevention’. A parody song was also performed by the students. About 70 participants were present including lactating mothers and children under 5 years, adolescents, teachers and ASHA workers. The puppet show and the parody song were interesting for the participants and it provided necessary knowledge regarding the health issue and its management. RBSK Nurses were present who provided free service for ‘Hb Testing’. Dr. Akhila A.K (Ayurveda Gynecology) conducted an awareness session regarding anemia, its causes, signs & symptoms, screening methods, prevention and management. The doctor also assessed those individuals whose hemoglobin were <12mg/dl and prescribed medications and measures to be taken to maintain normal hemoglobin levels. The program concluded with a vote of thanks given by Ms. Aleena Reji (student) conveying about the opportunity to conduct the program, puppet show and parody song. We thanked Mrs. Soney Mathew (HOD, Dept. of Community Health Nursing) and Mrs. Akshaya M. Nair (Tutor, Dept. of Community Health Nursing) for the support and guidance in conducting the program.
