REPORT ON SPECIAL CAMP 2020-2021 “Daksha” (28/12/2020 – 03/01/2021)
We the National Service scheme unit (NSSS/FU/PNT//KUHS/2) of Pushpagiri College of Nursing conducted a special camp (virtual) from 28/12/2020 to 03/01/2021. The camp was titled “Daksha” and the theme for the camp was “Youth for Prevention and Mitigation of Covid 19. Our 50 volunteers actively participated in the camp both online and offline. The volunteers had their sessions through google platform. The below mentioned is the detailed report of the events that took place during the camp
Day 1- 28/12/2020
The first day of the special camp started with the meeting with volunteers to plan for inaugural session in google platform at 8:30 am. The programme officer divided the volunteers into different groups. Thereafter, she discussed the events and delegated the responsibilities for each group .The session came to an end at 9:30 am.
On 28/12/2020 at 2:00pm the special camp officially started with the Inaugural session. To seek the blessings from God almighty the session started with a silent prayer followed by the NSS song by Ms Amritha Anna Biju and welcome speech by NSS Programme Officer Mrs Jincy Mariam Yohannan.
Fr Aby Vadakumthala, Director, Pushpagiri College of Nursing inaugurated the session and highlighted the role of NSS volunteers in the society and their contribution during the last few years. The inaugural session ended with the vote of thanks by Ms Anjana Nair. This session was organised by group 1 and was anchored by Ms Akhila A. The platform was backed up with the help of Mr Ajo C Mathew.
The session then again restarted at 2:30pm with an ice breaking session where volunteers and the programme officer actively participated. The first day ended with the common instructions by the programme officer throughout the week and the importance of the volunteers to actively participate in the session. The session came to an end at 4:30 pm.
Day 2- 29/12/2020
On 29/12/2020, the second day of the NSS special camp started in google platform with a silent prayer. The second day of the camp was organized by NSS volunteers in group 2. NSS song for the day was lead by Ms Ashitha Elsa Eapen. Ms Ashley Mary presented the thought for the day and previous day report. The report was passed by Ms Richa and Ms Akhila. The session ended with yoga session at 9:30 am.
The camp continued after breakfast offline, with setting up a plot by volunteers and planted saplings outside their house premises.
The volunteers prepared articles for digital magazine. Meanwhile there was a meeting held by group 3 volunteers to plan for the next day.
At 6:00pm an awareness session was conducted by NSS programme officer Ms Jincy Mariam Yohannan where she discussed about being contented with the blessing what each of us have. There was presentation of inspirational vedios followed by the session.
The session followed with ice breaking and cultural programmes coordinated by group 2 members. The session ended at 7:30 pm.
Day 3- 30/12/2020
On 30/12/2020, the camp started at 8:30 am with a silent prayer. Group 3 members coordinated the session. Ms Diya Maria anchored the session.
Ms Giya shared the thought for the day followed by previous day report presentation by Ms Elsa Thomas. The second day report was passed by Neethu Sara Jose and Ashly Mary. The session ended up with the yoga session.
The volunteers continued with the farming activity. The volunteers also prepared health awareness brochures for the distribution during the field survey.
At 6:00pm an awareness session was conducted by NSS volunteer Ms Athira -Manmadhan and she presented the technique of paper bag making. Each volunteer made their own paper bags.
The session continued with various cultural activities and ice breaking sessions coordinated by group 3. The third day ended at 7:00pm
Day 4- 31-12-2020
On the fourth day, the camp started through google meet. The session was coordinated by group 4 volunteers. The camp began with a silent prayer. NSS song was lead by Ms Melvina James. Ms Jincy Jose presented the thought for the day and Ms Jubitta Jose read the previous day report. The report was passed by Ms Neethu Sara and Ms Prilsiya Antony. Thereafter everyone actively participated in the yoga session.
The camp continued offline with vegetable gardening. The volunteers also actively participated in cooking and crafts work.
At 2:30 pm, Ms Tissa presented regarding how to make three layer cloth masks easily. The session then followed by ice breaking session where all volunteers participated in exciting game sessions.
The volunteers then involved in preparation of forthcoming cultural programmes.
Day 5- 01/01/2021
On the fifth day, the camp woke up with happiness and high spirits of New Year. The session was led by group 5 under the leadership of Ms Richa. The camp began with a silent prayer. The NSS song was led by Ms Priya Anna- Joseph. Ms Midhuna Pradeep presented the thought for the day. The camp report was presented Ms Neethu Sara Jose. The session ended with energising yoga session.
The camp continued with vegetable gardening. Thereafter, the volunteers actively participated in field survey. Each volunteer collected data from 10 houses strictly following COVID protocol. Health awareness brochures were also distributed in these areas.
The survey was then followed by session presented by Ms Jubitta at 2:30pm. She thought how to make paper bag used to dispose biomedical waste while going for community health care. The volunteers made paper bags along with the session.
Next session then continued with awareness session lead by Mrs Renjini Devi, Vice Principal. She enlightened the group with techniques of enriching positive attitude in oneself.
The New Year session then later on ended with an interesting ice breaking session.
Day 6 – 02-01-2021
The 6th day camp was coordinated by group 6 volunteers. The camp began with a silent prayer followed by NSS song lead by Ms Seethu MK. Ms Serin Joshy shared the thought for the day. Ms Sandra Raveendran presented the previous day report. The session ended with yoga session.
The volunteers then actively involved in vegetable gardening. Later on each group arranged separate meetings where the data collected for survey was discussed and they made the final copy for presentation.
At 2:00pm, Sr Sereena CMC, Associate Professor took over the session and discussed with the volunteers on the topic “Art of Being Quiet”.
At 6:00pm, the session ended with a grant cultural programme and ice breaking session.
Day 7 – 03-01-2021
3rd Jan 2021 was the last day of our special camp “Daksha”. The Validictory session was coordinated by group 7 volunteers.
The session started with a silent prayer followed by NSS theme song led by Ms Treesa. Ms Shilpa shared the thought for the day followed by previous day report presentation by Ms Tissa Mathew. Thereafter, survey report was presented by each group. The reports of each group were analysed and the COVID compliance in accordance with the data was discussed.
The session then followed by feedback by the volunteers and Programme Officer. The winners of games conducted were declared.
The session came to an end with vote of thanks by Mr Xavier P Prasad.
