Anti-Tobacco Day Celebration
As a part of World No-tobacco day, the second year postgraduate students of Pushpagiri College of Nursing has organized a sensitization programme for the undergraduate students of Pushpagiri College of Nursing on 31/5/2018.
The focus of World No Tobacco Day 2018 “Tobacco and heart disease” was displayed.
The objective of the program was to make the young nurses aware of the link between tobacco and heart and other cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including stroke, which combined are the world’s leading causes of death and the other objective was to orient the audience regarding the different domains of health education, which can reduce the risks to heart health posed by tobacco.
The program started with a prayer song followed by a hearty welcome speech by Ms Steffy Elizabeth Joseph. The unfolding of the theme was done by Ms Nisha S, who stressed World No Tobacco Day 2018 focus is on the impact of tobacco on the cardiovascular health of people worldwide. Tobacco use is an important risk factor for the development of coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease. Despite the known harms of tobacco to heart health, and the availability of solutions to reduce related death and disease, knowledge among large sections of the public that tobacco is one of the leading causes of CVD is low.
An educational health play was performed by the second year MSc nursing students incorporating the areas of health education in a way appealing to the audience. The programme concluded with a quiz program followed by the vote of thanks by Ms Athira K Thankappan. The meeting dispersed by 4.00pm.
The effectiveness of the programme was the reflection of the team effort of the second year M.Sc Nursing students.
